Transition & Pathways

Transitions within Yarra Primary School (YPS)

At YPS, we believe believe seamless transitions are essential to establish a positive start for the new year. Several important transitions occur within the school yearly; from Prep to Year 1, Year 2 to Year 3 and Year 4 into Year 5. YPS aims to prepare students for these important transitions by closely monitoring students as they move between these grade levels. Cross grade events including buddy events, for students to get to know students in other grades and provide opportunities for students to experience school life in other grades, are regular events throughout the school year.

Year 6 to 7 Transition
Clear procedures are in place for a successful Year 6-7 transition. The focus is to prepare children and their families for the next stage of learning. Students in Year 6 prepare for secondary school over Years 5 and 6, and Yarra Primary liaises closely with local secondary schools to ensure a successful transition. During Terms 1 and 2, Year 6 students and their families have the opportunity to visit a range of secondary schools. The official enrolment process will commence during Term 2. Information will be made available to students and families from the Year 6-7 Transition Coordinator, within the classroom, during a Parent Information Night or via Compass. A transition day organised by Government Secondary Schools will be held in Term 4 to provide Year 6 students with a chance to spend a day in their chosen secondary school.
