The Amazing Yarra Race – Community Scavenger Hunt

Last Friday evening we enjoyed the launch of the Amazing Yarra Race launched by Josiah and Yasmin. It was heart-warming to see so many enthusiastic families tune in to connect as a community. A dance off, cartoon caption contest (see the winners below) and a cookie challenge provided much needed laughter and joy and our very own rockstar in residence, Sam Lucas played for us- so cool! Connecting with each other is so important for our kids right now.  We may be physically apart, but we need to stay socially and emotionally connected. We will continue to prioritise community connections to support our families.

At yesterday’s whole school assembly (which was recorded) we announced the winners and for those that couldn’t attend a huge congratulations to the Prasad and the Valenzuela-Campos families.

Sofia’s family came first and won a 100-dollar UrbanFarm voucher and Tomas, Vicente and Martin received a 50-dollar voucher for their very creative entry. A reminder UrbanFarm is also offering Yarra Families a 35% discount on their first orders for the duration of ‘Lockdown 6’.

Student Leaders Present to School Council

On Tuesday night Charlotte P., Edwina, Julia, and Emma presented to Yarra School Council their experiences at the GRIP (Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, People) Leadership Conference last term. Each leader also shared challenges they face leading during a pandemic as well as ideas to improve the school. We were so impressed by their eloquence and honesty. If this is our future, we are in good hands.

Whole School Assembly

Yesterday’s whole school assembly was very well attended. Our student hosts led an engaging presentation (how cool was the intro- with the special guest appearance by Edwina’s cat) of recent events and learning at Yarra. We do apologise for those that experienced issues joining and we are learning more about Google Meet and capacity, and we are investigating our options to ensure full participation.

Cardboard Challenge

Today’s challenge was a success. I was so captured by the students’ creativity and ingenuity. There were some amazing creations and I thank families for their efforts in gathering materials for this day. Please do not forget to send photos in so we can include them in the PowerPoint for our next assembly.

While You’re Away…

There has been continued work in the Kitchen Garden with the moving of the fence and removal of one of the sports sheds. We are in the process of expanding on our grounds with a quiet play area for the students adjacent to the Garden. We are looking forward to the students returning to school and helping us to design an area for contemplation and relaxation.

Looking forward,

Saraid
