Human Swine Flu (H1N1 Influenza 09)
excludable diseases and infections
Below is a list of just some of the highly infectious conditions which require treatment to be effective before children can return to school:
Whooping cough – 4 weeks
Chicken pox – 7 days after the onset of symptoms and until all blisters have dried
Conjunctivitis – until the discharge from the eyes has stopped unless doctor has
diagnosed a non-infectious conjunctivitis
Measles – at least 5 days
Mumps – 14 days after the onset of symptoms
Rubella (German measles) – 10 days after the rash appears
Viral hepatitis – until recovered
Streptococcal infections – until infection has fully cleared
Impetigo (school sores) – until appropriate antibiotic treatment has commenced. Any sores on exposed skin should be covered with a watertight dressing.
Ringworm – until the day after appropriate anti-worming treatment has commenced
Scabies – until the day after appropriate treatment has commenced
Pediculosis (nits & head lice) – Students are not to be at school with live lice. They may commence school the day after treatment has commenced. Nits (eggs) are OK.
Molluscum contagiosum – no exclusion
