School Uniform
School Uniform
A school uniform has been introduced to ensure easy identification of students belonging to our school and reduce the amount of peer pressure students face by introducing standard clothing items:
Requirement to Wear Uniform
Students are required to wear school uniform every day. They will be unable to attend any school activity off the school premises if not in full uniform – this is a safety issue.
Yarra Primary School is also a Sunsmart School which means that all children must wear either a 'cap with a flap', or a 'hat with a brim' for sport, physical education and playtimes during terms 1 and 4. Our school uniform includes bucket hats which are compulsory during all outdoor activities. Polo shirts with collars are also recommended for summer terms.
Students not wearing uniform on any day will be required to provide an explanatory note from their parents/carers. If a note is not provided, a letter informing the parents/carers of the school's compulsory uniform policy will be sent home with the child. The parents/carers must acknowledge receipt of this letter. If there is no acknowledgement, a letter will be sent by post.
Consistent refusal to wear uniform will be discussed with the child's parents/carers. If parents/carers have an objection to the uniform or are in financial difficulty, they should approach the School Principal.
Uniform Items
The jade green and black uniform was designed in consultation with students and includes a variety clothing items:
- Jade Green shirts (both T-shirts and Polo shirts);
- Black, Jade Green Skivvies;
- Jade Green windcheaters (crew neck and hooded);
- Black Bomber Jacket with green stripes;
- Black tracksuit pants and shorts. All girls need to have shorts/tracksuit pants for physical education and for the Perceptual Motor Program;
- Black embroidered sleeveless vest;
- Green and white checked dress is an acceptable option for summer;
- Black school shoes are preferable, but not compulsory. Summer sandals are permitted, but heels and toes must be covered. Thongs/flip-flops and scuffs are not permitted;

Costs
Every attempt has and will be made to make the uniform affordable. The uniform price is as low as possible, not for profit, lay-by is available and financial assistance is available at the discretion of the School Principal.
